Volunteer Opportunities
The Southeast Seattle Senior Foundation (SSSF) was created in 1994 to confront the critical need for quality low- and moderate-income senior housing in Rainier Valley. Community volunteers rallied together to create the SSSF, a non profit organization, and raise the funds to purchase The Brighton. In July, 1999, after one-and-a-half years of fundraising and negotiations, the purchase of The Brighton apartment complex was finalized. Securing The Brighton, which is located adjacent to the Southeast Seattle Senior Center, brought the Foundation's dream of a Senior Campus to reality.
During the next few years, all common areas, the roof and parking lot were upgraded, and a wheelchair accessible P-Patch garden was installed. The renovated common areas have new carpets, paint, tile, and comfortable furniture. Building enhancements and upgrades continue to be a priority.
The Brighton provides clean and safe senior housing in Southeast Seattle with 124 affordable, comfortable and accessible apartments
Committed volunteers continue to lead the charge to make The Brighton the best it can be. Prompt maintenance and continual improvement of the building, building systems, and grounds is a top priority of the board, management and staff of SSSF. Our talented, dedicated, and friendly staff works hard to maintain The Brighton and the Senior Campus for the safety, well-being, and enjoyment of all residents. Contact us

"In the late 1990's, many Southeast Seattle residents realized that elderly friends and neighbors who wished to move to senior housing found minimal options in the area, and were forced to leave their community. This inspired our major (and successful) effort to create a first-class facility for seniors and their families in the Rainier Valley."
